Foxton U11 vs Cambridge Granta U11
Wednesday 3rd May 2017
The weather was not auspicious for cricket, but our new team embarked on their new cricket careers with enthusiasm and energy, and cold and damp was insufficient to stop our team showing good spirit and good potential in this match.
Ollie won the toss, and he decided to bat. We found it difficult to score runs throughout our innings – 2 of the boys scored runs off the bat (Ollie and Sidney), but we protected our wicket (Albert and Harvey were also undefeated) – we lost 6 wickets during the innings, and we picked up some extras to finish on 194.
Cambridge Granta batted steadily, and made it difficult for our boys to pick up wickets. We picked up 1 wicket (Johnny), but we conceded a significant number of wides (40) and a few no-balls (6). Our most accurate bowler was Ollie, with some potential shown by Tommy and Edward. Our fielding was determined – we had some good wicket-keeping (Harvey and Sidney) and fielding, some brave stops (especially Ethan), some energetic chasing (particularly Albert) and our team-spirit was maintained throughout the fielding (as the night drew in, and it got colder).
The boys enjoyed the match, they stuck together with good team spirit, and positive attitude throughout. Ollie did a good job as captain to help the team be positive and do as well as they did.
Team: Ollie, Sidney, Tommy, Harvey, Ethan, Edward, Albert, Josh and Johnny
