Overseas players

Since our merger in 2021, we have been blessed to have some excellent overseas players join us for a summer of cricket in the UK.

Fergus Fergusson (Sydney - Australia) 2024



My experience playing for Foxton Granta CC over the summer of 2024 was incredible. This six-month involvement with the club was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Right from the start, the club and community were extremely welcoming, helping me find jobs at the local pub, The White Horse, and with local club sponsors, DP Gardening Services. In addition, Chairman John Gray, Matt Gray, the players, the members, and the supporters made it very easy for me to settle in. Brodie and I had very comfortable and enjoyable living arrangements, staying with our hugely hospitable hosts, Sam, Tim, and Tom, just a short bike ride from Foxton. Players like Harry Hopwood were especially helpful in providing lifts to away games, making travel to matches simple and stress-free.

The club’s location is fantastic, with several nearby train stations making it easy to travel to Cambridge (about 15 minutes away), London (around 1 hour), and many other significant destinations across the country. Moreover, overseas travel was a breeze, as the club is conveniently close to both London Stansted and Luton airports. During my time, I was fortunate enough to explore Europe, visiting countries such as Spain, Slovenia, Hungary, Portugal, Malta, and Croatia.

Before arriving in the UK, I had some doubts about the standard of cricket, but the Onyx Division 1 league offered high-quality cricket, plenty of opportunities to perform, and valuable time at the crease. The midweek league also provided great laughs and memorable moments both on and off the field. Both leagues allowed us to play at some beautiful countryside grounds, including the picturesque Foxton Rec. One of the highlights of my time was definitely watching the 1st XI play and win their match at Lord's in the National Village Cup final—an incredible day that perfectly summed up my time away from home.

I couldn’t recommend Foxton Granta CC more highly to anyone considering playing abroad for a season. The experiences and friendships I’ve made on and off the field were truly enjoyable and will be cherished for years to come.
