The Foxes got their 2023 National Village Cup campaign underway yesterday as they beat Hethersett & Tas Valley CC by 16 runs in a tight game.
After concessions in the previous two rounds, the Foxes travelled to Norfolk in Round 3 of the competition, looking to progress in the regional final. Batting first Chris Pepper top scored with a hard hitting 57 (48 balls), supported by Harry Hopwood 32, Ash Clark 31 and Ravi Mahendra 34 not out. The total of 223-8 was a good result after losing early wickets, but was probably only around par on a good batting track.
In reply Hethersett put on an opening partnership of 63 before Will Stock (2-43) got the breakthrough. Following this, there were a number of useful partnerships throughout the innings which the Foxes found hard to break and at 170-4 Hethersett looked in control of the match. However, the Foxes were able to drag the game back in their favour largely thanks to Ravi Mahendra (4-43) and Johnny Atkinson (3-29). Following a cluster of lower order wickets, the hosts were eventually bowled out for 207 in the 37th over and the Foxes were victorious by 16 runs.
The regional final is to be played at Foxton on Sunday 4th June vs Ashmanhaugh and Barton Wanderers CC
