DISAPPOINTING DEFEAT

23 May 2011

TUCKER PREMIER DIV. 1

Foxton 1st XI 216 (47.4 overs) Godmanchester 1st XI 218-6 (41.2 overs))

Foxton went down by four wickets to a promising young Godmanchester side who now find themselves at the top of the league after this win. Losing the toss and being surprisingly asked to bat the home side were soon in trouble losing Peter Moor, skipper Lawrence Farnum and Adam Webster with only 37 on the board. Opener Antonnel Atwell was then joined by Jeffery Douglas and together they added 77 before Douglas fell attempting another lusty blow for a hard hit 32. A watchful 31 by Tyler Deas together with 21 from Tom Stone and Atwell with a top score of 73 ( ten fours and a six) saw Foxton total 216 all out from 47.4 overs, this it was felt was just below par considering the very fast outfield. Joe Dawborn was the pick of the visitors attack with 4-46.

Unfortunately for Foxton due to absentees they only had one pace bowler, Douglas, and he was nursing injuries. Nonetheless they had Godmanchester reeling at 66-4 which included a magnificient diving catch in the deep by Douglas to remove the dangerous Chetham William. At this point skipper Matt Pateman was joined by Adam Cousins (36) and they steadied the ship with a stand of 58 to put Godmanchester back on track. Joe Dawborn (19) and 16 year old Elliot Cafferkey belying his years with 36 not out together with a patient 62 not out from Patemann saw the visitors stroll home with nearly seven overs to spare. Douglas took the new ball very late in the innings and managed one strike and he was Foxton's top bowler with 3-76 but it was too little too late for Foxton and in the duration of the visitors innings the home bowlers failed to register a maiden and they went home disappointed with 12 bonus points as consolation.

The Foxton 2nd XI notched up their second consecutive win beating Babraham II by four wickets.

Next week Foxton I are away at Cambridge to Granta II, whilst the 2nd XI entertain Ashdon. On Sunday they play in the area semi final of the Persimmon Village Cup at Kimbolton.
