The 2012 season kicked off with pre-season friendlies against Mildenhall CC and John Fisher CC. Everyone was keen to see our overseas player Andrew Kealy bowl for the first time, he did not disappoint, notching 93 with the bat and a 3 for with the ball.

15-year-old Chris Pepper was recruited and made his first appearance in senior cricket, watch this space. Back for his second year was Tommy Stone, myself and our newly apppointed captain had been busy during the winter trying to attract some new players to blend in with the current ones.

First game set the tone for the season, rained off at half time, it was to be the wettest season ever recorded, but in that half game we had seen enough to realise we had some great talent on board.

During May Kealy had spells of 7-18, 6-31 and 7-17 whilst Pepper had walked out to bat on three crisis occasions and posted tough runs.

Webster had a tough start to the season, but once the decks firmed up showed his class, outside the club he scored good runs for Cambs under 25's.

Tom Stone found his form and all the way through the season had great performances with bat, ball and in the field.

Against Camden CC the Foxes came up against the Chris Wright show, the Warwickshire paceman collected a 6 for and 50 plus runs, but in Webster and Farnum he found some class batting against him, both scored good runs, without him Camden would have been well short, in the same match Tyler Deas showed his trip to New Zealand was worth it, with a career best 6 for.

For the first half of the season we had without doubt the best keeper ever to play for the Foxes, Sharne Grant was taking leg side stumpings to Kealy just for fun. For the second part of the season the club were very fortunate to have Will Wright join as our regular first team keeper, what a great future Will has with bat and gloves.

The warhorse Mark Ferrari was proving he can still swing the ball and caused big problems on his day, he also chipped in with some handy runs.

Lawrence Farnum was like many other batters in the league struggling with  the stop start season we were enduring, but still came good with some solid knocks in the late 40s.

One of our longest serving members Max Bowen again showed consistency with his batting, top score 91, also chipping in when required bagging some vital wickets. It was Max effecting a run out against Nassington that secured the bowling bonus point ensuring the title for Foxton.

Tyler Deas carried on showing his good form and had some great opening spells, and some very handy runs to score batting points.

The man who revived his appetite for cricket was Ian Cambridge, with a great knock in the Yorkshire Tea National Village Cup against Reed, together with some other solid performances, he also brought magic to the dressing room that is needed in all good teams.

One of the highlights of 2012 was the emergence of Chris Pepper, who at the age of 15 was batting like a 25-year-old, facing some crisis moments at three down and producing chanceless knocks, the highlight being 81 out of 160 on a very tough surface at St Ives, definitely a big future.

Andrew Kealy turned out to be a fantastic bowler, taking 64 wickets in just 15 league games and finished the league's leading wicket taker, he also showed some steel in tough moments with the bat.

Another lad to join us for a few games was Thomas Dann, and with regular appearances would score many runs for the club, his highlight was 55 n.o. against Khalsa

Last but not least was our skipper Gareth Roots, who made some very classy runs during the season, top score being 101 n.o. in the Village Cup, and was left stranded on 96 in a league game, he brought some great ideas and some great players to the club, he also brings a tough but good attitude. We played some top cricket in the right manner.


To win the league by 60 plus points and be rained out three more times than the runners up Sawston CC shows how good the side were this year, true champions.
 It's been a real pleasure managing such a talented well behaved team.

We had a great run in the Yorkshire Tea National Village Cup, winning the Cambs & Norfolk area, then bowing out to this years winners Reed CC from Herts.

What a fantastic job our committee have done again this year, raising the profile of the club each year.

Lets look forward to defending the title in 2013.
