Henry Hunter (19) is a fine prospect, who has played Premier cricket in Hawkes Bay for the past three years. He is a proven right-hand opening batsman and a left-arm orthodox spinner who has also represented his province through the age-groups and is now a member of the senior provincial side.
This season he has scored 615 runs and sits amongst the leading run-scorers in the Premier League. He averages 41 and boasts a highest score of 107. He has been equally effective with the ball – his left-arm spin accounting for 29 wickets at 12.9. At Hawke Cup level for the Senior Hawkes Bay side, he has averaged 69 from the opening spot this summer.
He has previously represented Hawkes Bay at Under-15s through to the senior side and was Central District’s Under-15 squad member too. Hunter was the Hawkes Bay secondary schools MVP and ‘best player’ winning the secondary schools cricketer of the year award in 2010.
Outside the game, although he has yet to obtain coaching qualifications, he has plenty of coaching experience with juniors previously. Hunter is a personable, highly driven cricketer who is eager to break into professional cricket.
As part of his progression as a player, he has signed to play league cricket for Foxton in the Tucker Gardiner Cambs and Hunts Premier League this summer.
