WINNING RUN CONTINUES AGAINST WEAKENED GODDY

14 Jul 2013

TUCKER GARDNER PREMIER DIV. 1

Foxton 230-7 (48 overs)  Godmanchester 146 (31.5 overs)

Foxton's winning streak continued with a 25 point maximum victory over a weakened Godmanchester side missing four regulars. Winning the toss on another sweltering day and electing to bat the hosts openers Cei Sanderson and Henry Hunter gave them a solid foundation with a stand of 99 from 24 overs. The former was the first to fall trapped l.b.w. by spinner Chethan William for 40 from 81 balls with seven fours. Hunter now on 52 and batting assuredly was joined by skipper Gareth Roots, and a second wicket stand of 68 further consolidated the home team's position. In the 38th over, now attempting to quicken the rate, Roots (36) was stumped by Alex Marsh, another scalp for William. With four overs remaining Hunter was also stumped, but had by now reached three figures for the second time this season, another outstanding effort of 102 by the Kiwi from 120 balls with 12 fours, he is now approaching 800 runs  this term. Chris Pepper (20) was then caught behind and a late flurry of wickets then saw Foxton finishing on a slightly disappointing 230-7 at tea, considering the solid start made. William was Goddy's leading bowler with 3-75.
The visitors suffered an early blow as Matt Davies-Binge was caught behind by James Coe from Andrew Kealy's fifth ball. Captain Matt Pateman then joined William and a stand of 38 began to repair the early damage. William (21) was then brilliantly caught by a diving left handed catch by 'keeper Coe from the bowling of Jeffery Douglas. An unfortunate run out together with wickets for spinner Adam Webster and Chris Pepper in their first overs had Godmanchester tottering after 18 overs at 98-5. Their hopes now rested with Pateman, but in Webster's third over they faded as he was well caught in the deep by Chris Pepper for a brisk 47 from 52 balls. Webster went on to complete a good spell of 8-1-19-4 as the remaining batsmen offered just token resistance and together with Roots bagging the last two wickets the visitors were finally all out for 146 from just 31.5 overs. The maximum 25 points gained pushed Foxton to fourth in the table.
The 2nd XI also continued their winning ways with a 131 run success at Dullingham which included another hundred for Tyler Deas and remain top of their league.
Next week the 1st XI travel to Castor & Ailsworth and the II's entertain Elsworth I.
