SUCCESSFUL CHASE AT MARCH
08 Sep 2013
TUCKER GARDNER PREMIER DIV. 1
March 175-9 (48 overs) Foxton 176-6 (40.4 overs)
On a perfect day for cricket Foxton eased home in their penultimate match this season by four wickets on their visit to March. The home side after calling correctly decided to bat and lost David Hodson early on bowled by Mark Ferrari in the third over. Australian Steve Seymour was then joined by Tyler Phillips (16) and a good stand of 54 then gave March a solid foundation to their innings. Acting Foxton skipper Andrew Kealy then trapped Phillips l.b.w. and another scalp for him together with one for spinner Adam Webster saw March on 92-4 after 27 overs. The mainstay of the March effort Seymour, having been dropped in the forties, was then fifth out for a well played 72 from 100 balls including seven fours and two sixes, a second wicket for Ferrari in his second spell. Solid knocks from Joshua Jackman (25) and Ben Pyle (21) then pushed March on to 161-6 after 45 overs. A feature of the visitors fielding being three good catches in the deep from Cei Sanderson. Swing bowler Kealy with 15-5-38-4 and Ferrari 3-55 from 13 overs were Foxton's top bowlers and at tea after 48 overs March posted a competitive 175-9.
Another impressive opening stand of 84 from 18 overs by Sanderson (34) and Henry Hunter (56), unfortunately run out when looking set for another century, laid a good foundation for the Foxton reply. After a cautious beginning number three Antonnel Atwell (28), having scored just two from 26 balls, took a liking to slow bowler Matthew Vail and plundered 24 from just seven balls before falling l.b.w. to Tyler Phillips returning for a second spell to leave the visitors comfortably placed on 133-4 after 31 overs. Chris Pepper (21 n.o.) was batting assuredly but Callum Young then raised the March hopes with two quick wickets before Kealy (15 n.o.) together with Pepper eased Foxton home with something to spare after 40.4 overs. An economical return of 14-1-36-4 by Young was a feature of the hosts effort.
In their final game this term the Foxton 1st XI entertain local rivals Sawston and will be pushing for a third place league finish.
