The National Village Cup XI ran out 100 run winners in the Cambs & Norfolk regional final this Sunday away at Eaton Socon
Winning the toss and batting first on a used pitch Will Heslam anchored the innings with an excellent knock of 89, he was well supported by Alex Hooley who made 39. Some explosive lower order hitting by Ravi Mahendra (37 off 19 balls) took the total to 219-8 off 40 overs.
In response Jeff Douglas took the new ball bowling his off spin and had early success getting the wicket of White caught and bowled for 13. Steve Smith then got to work tearing through Eaton Socon's top order including the big scalps of Carpenter and Pickard. Smith went on to pick up 5 wickets (5/28) as along with Ada Cambridge (2/31) Socon were reduced to 58-8. Despite some lower order resistance the Foxes wrapped up proceedings in the 28th over, bowling Socon out for 119
The Sunday XI progress to the National Rounds for the 7th successive year and now face Essex & Suffolk winners, Worlington CC, at the recreation ground on 23rd June
