Foxton Granta Secure Historic National Village Cup Victory at Lord's

The Foxes have made history by securing their first-ever National Village Cup title with victory over 2022 champions Dumbleton at the prestigious Lord’s Cricket Ground, the Home of Cricket.

In the lead-up to the final, captain Lewys Hill urged his players to embrace the occasion without feeling overwhelmed. His message was clearly taken to heart as Richard Kaufman and Adam Webster, whose remarkable 200+ run partnership led Foxton Granta to victory with seven wickets to spare.

Dumbleton won the toss and elected to bat, posting a total of 240-8 from their 40 overs. Dumbleton’s innings was anchored by a brilliant century from Charlie Garratt, who hit an unbeaten 119 from 105 balls, including six boundaries and seven sixes. However, the Foxton Granta bowlers applied pressure throughout, with Sam Beer leading the attack, taking 3-38. Hill, Ravi Mahendra, and Kaufman also chipped in with one wicket apiece.

In response, Foxton Granta got off to a rocky start, losing opener Dougie Rice early for a duck. However, Kaufman joined Webster at the crease, and together they began to rebuild the innings. The pair patiently rotated the strike, taking advantage of scoring opportunities before accelerating after the drinks break.

Kaufman led the charge, reaching his century off just 80 balls, hitting nine fours and six sixes. His impressive knock ended on 110, caught by Finn Brabham off the bowling of Daniel Hammond. Johnny Atkinson was unlucky to fall without scoring, but Harry Hopwood then joined Webster, and the duo guided Foxton Granta to victory, with Webster finishing unbeaten on 97. Webster sealed the win by launching one of the day’s biggest sixes to bring the game to a close in 36 overs.

This victory marks a significant milestone for Foxton Granta and will be remembered as a defining moment in the club’s history.
