Foxton 1st XI v Granta II at Foxton

03 Aug 2010

Granta II 171-9 (48 overs) Foxton 1st XI 174-5 (38.5 overs)

Foxton made it six wins from their last eight matches with a five wicket victory over Granta II at home on Saturday. Winning the toss and batting the visitors looked set for a useful total notching up 64 without loss. The introduction of Max Bowen saw wickets fall with successive balls in his third over, and with Antonnel Atwell chipping in with two more including opener and anchorman David Norman (46) Granta slumped to 89-4. Worse was to follow for them with two more dismissals on 89 making it six wickets down. The tail then began to wag led by 33 from Ashley Vella and they were relieved to make it to 171-9 from their 48 overs. Foxton's successful bowlers being Bowen 12-3-26-3, Jeffery Douglas 11-2-33-3 and Atwell 13-3-41-3.

With the wicket appearing easier for batting after tea the home openers Atwell (22) and John Procajlo (29) set off in confident fashion. With the fall of these two the chase was then taken up by Lawrence Farnum with a sparkling innings of 56 including ten fours and a six and Bowen with a watchful 15, and together they built a stand of 62 seeing Foxton well on their way to the target, but the loss of this pair plus Mark Ferrari going cheaply saw Foxton begin to wobble at 137-5. Runs seemed to dry up for the next six overs but eventually a flurry of boundaries from Cei Sanderson (19 not out) and Tyler Deas (18 not out) saw the hosts safely home.

Next week Foxton are away to Khalsa.
