Foxton 218-6 dec (35.1 overs) Khalsa 48-5 (20.4 overs) (Khalsa's target reduced to 158 from 26 overs forfeiting 5 batsmen)
Foxton's victory over Khalsa by 170 runs moved them up to fifth place in Division One of the Tucker Gardner Premier League. Acting captain Lawrence Farnum won the toss and elected to bat albeit on a poorly prepared surface. With the start delayed by an hour and further rain looking likely a reduced overs match ensued. The visitors lost John Procajlo in the second over with a mistimed pull to mid on but Farnum then joined Antonnel Atwell (26) and proceeded to lead from the front with a superbly crafted 56 including 10 fours. Further rain delays had Farnum looking to make a declaration at some point and pace bowler Jeffery Douglas was promoted to five with instructions to find quick runs. He duly obliged matching skipper Farnum's score of 56 with five fours and four magnificient sixes. Valuable contributions from wicket keeper Gareth Roots (11), Patrick Joseph (15) and Cei Sanderson 28 not out enabled Foxton to declare their innings after 35.1 overs on 218-6. Khalsa's best bowler being K. Humayan with 3-54.
A deluge whilst tea was being taken caused the umpires to make further reductions in the overs remaining. When play eventually restarted Khalsa then required 159 from 26 overs but had to forfeit five batsmen. Any hopes they had of attaining the target were quickly abandoned with the loss of their openers T. Afzal and J. Drotskie in the first two overs. With the pitch deteriorating by the over a draw for them also looked an unlikely possibility, and so it proved as they lost their final three batsmen to some outstanding catching from Foxton with only 20.4 overs bowled to wrap up the game for the visitors.
Next week Foxton entertain Ramsey, and will be looking to avenge their early season defeat.
