STRONG BATTING SETS UP WIN

24 Jul 2011

TUCKER PREMIER DIV. 1

Nassington 193 (37.2 overs) Foxton 264-6 dec. (40.5 overs)

A positive performance from Foxton's top five batsmen helped set up their latest victory away at Nassington. Deciding to bat after winning the toss on a greenish wicket openers Antonnel Atwell and Gareth Roots gave them the perfect start with a 157 partnership at a run a ball. Atwell was the more positive with Roots playing the anchor role. The home bowlers of which eight were tried had to wait for the introduction of Kasim Ikhlaq their seventh for any success. He bowled Atwell in the 27th over for a sparkling 95 (11 fours, five sixes) with the opener aiming for three figures in style. Foxton were now intent on a declaration and Jeffery Douglas was pushed up the order at three looking for quick runs. A brisk 29 from him added to a well crafted 53 from Roots found them on 200-3 after 32 overs. Skipper Lawrence Farnum 41 and Peter Moor 26 not out added the finishing touches to the innings and the visitors were able to declare at 264-6 from 40.5 overs giving them a bonus of seven extra overs to dismiss their hosts. Ikhlaq was their top bowler with 4-51.

Nassington were soon in trouble against Andy Gray, making a rare first team appearance, and Douglas who opened the bowling with four successive maidens. Wickets began to fall with Gray claiming three in four overs. A brilliant deflection on to the stumps from a throw in by keeper Roots then ran out the home sides leading batsman Harry Chappell cheaply and Foxton were scenting an early finish. With only 20 overs bowled they had Nassington on 69-6. A well played 81 not out (12 fours, two sixes) from home keeper Daniel Robinson together with 31 (six fours) from number ten James Trafford helped the hosts to respectability but it was not enough and they were finally all out for 193 and Foxton ran out clear winners by 71 runs to claim a maximum 25 points. Gray finished with the tidy figures of 9-1-21-3 with two wickets each for Douglas and Atwell.
The second eleven were involved in a very exciting match at home to Chippenham, the final outcome being a tie. Scores Foxton 2nd XI 204-5, Chippenham 204-7.
Next week Foxton I entertain league leaders March whilst the seconds have no fixture.
