DEFEAT AT GODDY

28 Apr 2013

TUCKER GARDNER PREMIER DIV. 1

Foxton 69 (41.2 overs)   Godmanchester 70-2 (20.1 overs)

Foxton were invited to bat after losing the toss in their latest league fixture at Godmanchester. Missing four regulars and facing a damp challenging surface with a slow wet outfield they made a slow start but after 27 overs were reasonably placed  at 57-3, with number three Mark Bott looking solid on 21 not out. Recently introduced off spinner Chethan William had already claimed acting skipper Adam Webster and would now go on to produce an impressive match winning spell, extracting turn and bounce together with the odd ball stopping he ran through the visitors middle and late order, culminating with an outstanding one handed catch on the boundary by Matt Davies-Binge to dismiss Jason Coleman and end the innings with Foxton all out for 69 after 41.2 overs. Cei Sanderson (12) and Bott (23) were the only batsmen to reach double figures. William posted an impressive return of 11.2-6-15-6. It was felt Foxton were 30-40 runs short of making a challenge.
Following tea they were immediately encouraged by swing bowler Andrew Kealy claiming Ben Clement first ball, and he tasted further success in his fifth over trapping hosts captain Matt Pateman lbw to leave Godmanchester on 14-2 after nine overs. William then joined Davies-Binge, who had faced 30 balls before opening his account, and with batting conditions rapidly improving, and confidence growing, they finished off the match, notching 34 from the last seven overs. William capped a man of the match performance on 33 not out with Davies-Binge unbeaten on 22.
Next week Foxton stage their first home fixture against Castor and Ailsworth.
