HUNTER CENTURY SETS UP FIRST LEAGUE WIN

05 May 2013

TUCKER GARDNER PREMIER DIV. 1

Foxton 233-5 (48 overs)  Castor 73-10 (18.4 overs)

An outstanding century from Henry Hunter set up Foxton for their first league win this season at home to Castor. Losing the toss again and being invited to bat on a good firm surface with a slick outfield Hunter and Cei Sanderson made the most of the conditions against the visitors opening attack of paceman Robert Woolley and spinner Simon Steel. At the drinks break after 24 overs they had advanced the hosts score to 86 without any apparent alarms. A rain break of 35 minutes after 30 overs failed to break the openers concentration and they continued in impressive fashion pushing the total on to 174 after 40 overs. Sanderson, showing consistent good form this season was then unfortunately run out looking to push on for quick runs for a well made 70 including eight fours and a six from 108 balls. Hunter was now going for his shots and reached his hundred in the forty first over with yet another boundary. A useful 23 from acting skipper Adam Webster supported Hunter who was eventually out from the penultimate ball of the innings to a fine caught and bowled effort from Woolley for 123 from 147 balls including 18 fours, an outstanding innings. This enabled Foxton to take tea with 233-5 on the board.
Following the break Castor were given a revised total of 204 from 42 overs forfeiting one wicket due to the aforementioned rain interruption. Foxton swing bowler Andrew Kealy at once made inroads with a first ball yorker to dismiss Castor's skipper Robin Vitas. He struck again with his fourth ball, having overseas player Steel caught at slip by Webster. Not to be outdone Jeffrey Douglas operating from the church end bagged two wickets in his first four overs both bowled. Woolley was the lone visitors batsman showing any resistance, but alas for Castor after 13 overs, attempting a risky second run, he was run out for 26 to leave the score faltering on 46-5. Douglas struck again in his seventh over, another clean bowled, and it was left to Kealy, claiming three more wickets in his final nine balls, to end the Castor effort on 73 all out after 18.4 overs and secure a 25 point maximum win for Foxton. Visitors 'keeper Jacob Miller was the only other batsmen to obtain double figures with 14. Kealy finished with 5-38 well supported by Douglas with 3-26.
Next week Foxton are again at home this time to Camden.
