FOXES SOLID AT SAWSTON

A good solid team performance secured a maximum 25 point return for Foxton at Sawston as they reached the halfway point of their league fixtures. Deciding to bat after calling correctly on a green looking surface that would go on to play easier than at first appeared they lost Cei Sanderson and skipper Gareth Roots early on but a third wicket stand of 52 between Henry Hunter (30) and Adam Webster (44) and a further stand of 40 for the fourth wicket by Webster and James Coe (61) much improved their position and after 27 overs they were 105-4. Two more wickets for Sawston had the visitors innings at the crossroads after 33 overs at 127-6, but fortunately for Foxton Coe was looking very assured and confident and would go on to be the backbone of their efforts. Andrew Kealy (36) then joined Coe and a brisk seventh wicket stand of 67 ensured the away side would post a respectable total. In the 45th over after facing 87 balls for his 61 Coe was then unfortunately run out but could be very satisfied with his contribution. At the tea break Foxton were fairly content on 208-8 from their 48 overs. For Sawston their bowlers had toiled hard and the wickets were shared between Vaughan Blanchard 3-64, Simon Rees 2-52 from 16 overs each with 2-50 for Marc Smith.
The hosts were soon under pressure at the resumption losing three wickets in the first 12 overs to the Foxton pace attack of Jeffery Douglas and Kealy, which included a spectacular right handed diving catch from 'keeper Will Wright to account for Rees. Sawston's hopes now rested on key batsman Blanchard, but with the total on 69-3 after 22 overs Tom Sherwin trapped him l.b.w. in his third over for 24 and would then complete five successive maidens to further hamper the hosts resistance. Jack Harvey (20) and Robbie Matthews (15) were then to be the only other contributors to reach double figures as Sawston subsided to an all out total of 97 from 33.3 overs. For Foxton the wickets were shared by Douglas 3-22, Kealy 3-23 and Mark Ferrari 3-26 with an important scalp for Sherwin.
The second eleven maintained their position at the top of the table with a home five wicket success over Hardwick, highlighted by 99 for Tyler Deas.
