Foxes march on in National Village

20 Jun 2022

The Foxes have enjoyed two comprehensive Village Cup victories over the last two Sundays.

On 12th June we welcomed league rivals, Histon CC to the recreation ground in the Cambs & Norfolk regional final. Batting first we posted 264-7 off our 40 overs with all of the top 4 passing 40, Abraham and Rice top scoring with 66 and 51 respectively. Histon never got going in reply thanks to some tight bowling across the board, Mitchell being the pick of the bowlers with 8 overs 3 for 32. Histon were restricted to 162-6, meaning the Foxes ran out winners by 102 runs.

Yesterday we played Horndon on the Hill from Essex in the last 32 of the competition. Winning the toss and batting first on a good deck, the Foxes went about compiling a mammoth 327-5 off their 40 overs, largely thanks to an explosive 119 off 105 balls from Rice (7x 4's, 4x 6's) who made it back to back tons following his 111no in the league the day before. Rice was ably supported by Hooley who made 68 at just under a run a ball and quick-fire 43 (23 balls) and 32 (14 balls) from Atkinson and Hopwood. One of the highlights of the innings being Harry Hopwood's towering 6 over long on which was caught by his Dad in the crowd! In reply, Horndon made180 all out, with captain Hill picking up 3/38 off his allotted 8 overs and Atkinson also taking 3 wickets (3/52). Credit must also go to Singh who was miserly with the new and old ball in a high scoring game, going at less than 3 runs per over for his 1/21. The Foxes ended up winning by 147 runs and progress to the last 16 of the competition where they now travel to Kent to play Leeds & Broomfield CC on Sunday 3rd July.
